January 21st, 2012: 2nd Annual Austin Gorilla Run 5K starts at 9 a.m.

On Saturday, January 21st of 2012 over 1,000 people will run through Downtown Austin in FULL GORILLA COSTUME raising funds and awareness for the endangered mountain gorilla.
Unji Udeshi is co-founder and director of Austin Gorilla Run. “This year we hope to break the Guinness World Record for most people in gorilla costumes. Registration for the event is open at our website. Please help us spread the word!”
Proceeds of the race directly benefit the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund, educating veterinarians and park rangers and creating jobs in Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Gorilla Run Distance:
The race is a 5k, or 3.1 miles long. If you are running, the race should take about 30 minutes. For those walking, it should take no longer than an hour. Be creative! Participants can run, walk, ride their bike, rollerblade, skateboard, unicycle, etc. Nothing motorized will be allowed.
Gorilla Run Registration:
Registration costs $45 for children and $99.95 for adults and includes a complimentary gorilla suit (sizes child through XL). The Austin Gorilla Run starts and finishes on Riverside at Cesar Chavez (1st St.) by the bridge over Lady Bird Lake, and will be followed by a block party on 4th St. with free lunch at Fado Irish Pub and music by Achachay.

January 20th – RunTex 11:30am – 6:30pm (on Riverside Dr.)
Gorilla Run Parking:
Ample parking will be available at Austin City Hall. The entrance is on Lavaca St. between Cesar Chavez (1st St.) and 2nd St.
Gorilla Run Road Closures:
South First Street (between Riverside and Guadalupe) and Cesar Chavez St. (between Guadalupe St. and Mopac Expressway) will be closed between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on January 21st, 2012.
